Goffredo Mameli

Goffredo Mameli was born in Genoa September 5, 1827, from an early age showed a keen talent for poetry and a great patriotic spirit, ideals and liberal Republicans joined in 1847 the movement of Mazzini, in the same year made the "Song of the Italians" and music by Novaro.Nei short years of his youth took part in many memorable deeds.
In March 1848 during the insurrection of Milan is organizing an expedition to the aid of Nino Bixio successo.Successivamente that ended with the brilliant success of the company was enlisted in the army of Giuseppe Garibaldi with the rank of captain.
Back a Genova promuove la sua attività irredentista nei confronti dell’Austria e diventa direttore del giornale il “Diario del Popolo”.
La sua opera di patriota combattente continua nel 1849 a Roma  nella lotta contro le truppe francesi venute in soccorso di Papa Pio IX , proprio durante il breve periodo della Repubblica Romana , durante la difesa di Villa del Vascello rimane ferito accidentalmente in modo non grave da una baionetta  ad una gamba, la ferita pericolosamente trascurata si infetta e va in cancrena , l’amputazione tardiva non salva  però la vita al giovane patriota.
Goffredo Mameli muore all’ospizio della Trinità Pilgrims' July 6, 1849 in his early twenties.
He was buried in Campo Verano, which is still visible on his monumento.Le but his remains were moved in 1941 to Gianicolo.
